Betty Jane Wilbanks Gates

Betty Wilbanks Gates, 67, resident of the Chalybeate Community, lifelong resident of Tippah County and beloved wife of Doug Gates, passed away Tuesday evening, August 9, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County.
  Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Gates will be at 2 PM Friday August12 at Charity Church in the Chalybeate Community with visitation starting at 5 PM Thursday August 11 and continuing at 9 AM Friday until service time.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
  Mrs. Gates was born June, 14, 1949 in Tippah County to the late Ernest and Hazel Barnes Wilbanks. She loved her family, her church, her friends and her community. Mrs. Gates will be remembered for love of baking birthday cakes, being a caregiver to many and her devotion to her family by keeping eveyone "in line". She will be missed by all that were blessed to have known and loved her.
  In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gates leaves her children, Jennifer Newby and Chris Gates both of Chalybeate and Allen Gates (Rachel) of Osceola, AR, a sister, Tommye Watson of Chalybeate, a brother, Randall Wilbanks of Ripley, her grandchildren, Cory and Brandon Wilbanks, Justin and Austin Newby, Morgan Macklin and Gunner Pullen, her great-granddaughters, Zadie and Zoey Newby, special daughter in law, Teresa Walker and special son in law, Thomas Newby. Her sisters, Marie Miles and Mary Wallis preceded her in death.
