July 29, 1927 ~ April 24, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years OldMattie Lou Yates "Mat" Jones, 88, lifelong resident of Tippah County , cherished member of the Falkner Community and beloved wife of the late Billy T. Jones, died peacefully Sunday evening April 24, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Funeral Services honoring the life of Mrs. Jones will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with burial in Falkner Cemetery. "Mat" was a member of Falkner Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years and enjoyed being known as the" lunch lady" at Falkner Elementary School for 15 years. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and was an accomplished cook and baker ,never content with anything less than a perfect pie. Anyone who knew Mat will remember her kind and gentle nature, devotion to her family and friends and dedication to her community and church. Visitation for Mrs. Jones will be Tuesday, April 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will continue Wednesday at The Ripley Funeral Home until service time at 1 p.m. Those left to honor her memory are her sons, Randy Jones (Lynn) of Falkner and Mark Jones (Paula) of Des Arc, MO, granddaughters, Stacey Street (Scott) of Falkner, Lauren Whitaker of Memphis and Allison Ginn (Samuel) of Southaven, 5 great grandchildren, Madison and Reed Street, Sara Reye Dreyfus, Everett Kalkstein and Jones Ginn, her sister, Lula Hill (Bobby), special nieces, Kathy Moran and Jill O'Neal, her caregiver Kathy Nails,a host of nieces and nephews and her feline pal," Kitty-Boo". She was preceded in death by her parents, William Almos and Mamie Eaton Yates, her husband of 67 years, Billy T. Jones, sisters, Gladys Robbins, Mildred Patrick, Willa Yates and Dorothy Hoenick, a brother, William Clyde Yates and a grandson Marcus Jones.
