James Kyle Strickland, 79, well known resident of the Ashland Community and a person active for many years in the business, religious and community affairs of Benton County, died peacefully at his home following an extended illness on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016. Services, with Military Honors, honoring the life of Mr. Strickland will be at 2 PM Wednesday in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with burial in the Ashland City Cemetery.
  A native of Benton County, Mr. Strickland was born Oct. 20, 1936, the son of the late James Horace Strickland and Lillie Hopkins Strickland. He received his education in the Benton County Public School System and was the owner of Strickland Roofing Co. for many years before retiring in November 2015. Mr. Strickland was a converted Christian and was a devoted member of Hamilton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 30 years. He was a US Army Veteran and was the husband of the late Beatrice Jones Strickland who died in 2008. Mr. Strickland will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. He adored his grandchildren and it turn was adored by them. A phenomenal archer, sportsman and all around outdoorsman, James Kyle began riding his Harley motorcycle at the age of 75.
  Visitation for Mr. Strickland will be from 5 PM to 9 PM Tuesday, January 26 and will continue from 10 AM to 2 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
  He is survived by his daughter, Angela Strickland Zablocky (Chris) of Manahawkin, NJ, his sons, Bobby Strickland (Denise) and James Strickland (Carol) both of Ashland, his sisters, Melba Orman`and Darlene Hartley both of Ashland and Dorothy Orman of Falkner, his brothers, Hilliard, Billy, Clyce Strickland all of Ashland, 3 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 1 God granddaughter. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Montroy and David Horace Strickland.
